My dad was always a staunch anti-import, particularly anti-Japanese, mainly due to the influence of his WWII veteran father. But, a succession of disappointments with Ford, GM, and Chrysler products in the 70s and 80s drove him to a Subaru wagon, which he tried to make up for by plastering giant American flag and POW MIA s tickers in the back window.

This kind of reminds me of that mentality.
